Celebrating Clinical Trials Day – UHB Research Showcase
On Friday 17th May 2024, the NIHR HRC-DDR team joined University Hospitals Birmingham (UHB) research teams to celebrate International Clinical Trials Day. The event exhibited the exciting research taking place within UHB and the many ways that patients, the public and clinical staff can become involved in research.
The NIHR HRC-DDR presented examples of how the centre has supported the development of health technologies. These examples included a pulse oximeter for newborn babies (measures blood oxygen levels) and a technology to better diagnose a life-threatening heart condition following surgery. The team explained the importance of including both clinical staff feedback and patient and the public’s feedback in the development of health technologies. This feedback helps to improve the design and features of technologies and helps to improve adoption into the NHS and follow-on care. The NIHR HRC-DDR also engaged members of the public and patients to ask about the design of our new website, helping to improve its future design.
We look forward to future years of the UHB Research Showcase and displaying our upcoming research projects!
