The NIHR HRC-DDR recently attended the NIHR Innovation Observatory’s Hacking Child Tech Event, following on from a recent project collaboration. The two days aimed to advance innovation for children, including devices, diagnostics and digital technologies.

The NIHR HRC-DDR previously completed a survey to prioritise areas of unmet need for technologies in paediatric trauma and emergency care. Paediatric clinicians prioritised neurological trauma as the largest area of unmet need. The NIHR HRC-DDR and Innovation Observatory then collaborated on a horizon scan to identify pipeline innovations and technologies within this area. The interim report can be found on the NIHR Innovation Observatory’s website.

The Hacking Child Tech event was a great opportunity to meet with clinicians, academics and industry to stimulate innovation within paediatric neurological trauma. The Paediatric Neurological Trauma workshop on Day 2 of the event provided opportunity to develop Population, Intervention, Comparison, and Outcome’s (PICO’s) and product ideas with a range of relevant stakeholders. Additionally, members of the team were able to discuss the support that the NIHR HRC-DDR could offer to help develop novel technologies within this area of high unmet need. Overall, the event demonstrated excellent collaboration between NIHR infrastructures and provided a springboard for future development and innovation of paediatric technologies!
